Fix your sight on Jesus

There is safety in our Christian faith journey when you constantly fix your sight on Jesus. Jesus is the foundation of the new testament church. You can’t fix your sight else where and still believes to arrived on your destination successful. Our stability as Christians is in Christ Jesus. We have to believe in everything that within us with complete alignment with our veal on Jesus Christ.
22 – “And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 – And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening came, he was there alone.
24 – But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
25 – And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 – And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; they cried out for fear.
27 – But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 – And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 – And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 – But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 – And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 – And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
33 – Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.” (Mathew chapter 14 verses 22 to 33)

The Christian faith is more of the spirit than the physical.

The journey of life is more spiritual than the physical. There is no controversy about that, that those who are driven by what they see will always get stuck in their journey of life. You have to always realise that man is first a spirit being that has a soul and lives in a body. It is the spirit first before the physical. Once conquered in the spirit, can be conquered in the physical. You cannot continue to live your life on assumption.
This is very essential to our faith journey. The Christian faith is more of the spirit than the physical. We are not moved by what we see; we are not moved by what we hear; we are not by what we feel; we are only moved by what we believe. What we believe as Christians is stronger than whatever is happening around us. Things might not be right around us, but once our beliefs do not Concur with that, everything will turn out right.

The sea cannot hold any substance that is placed on it.

In the case of Peter, when they saw Jesus walking on the sea, they never took it to be Jesus. Though everything about the One walking on the sea projected that it was Jesus, they thought it impossible for anyone to walk on the sea. The sea cannot hold any substance that is placed on it. Here is Jesus walking on the sea right before them and walking towards them.
They thought it to be a ghost that was sent maybe by those who did not like the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ and were trying to strike them since Jesus was not there with them. They were afraid. Jesus understood their state and spoke out that they should not be afraid and that it is He, Jesus. Once Jesus made such a statement of confidence, Peter did not hesitate to place a demand which the Lord granted him.
28 – “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 – And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” (Mathew chapter 14 verses 28 to 29)

Jesus ordered Peter to come, and he stepped forward to walk to Jesus.

Peter knew his master that when he placed a demand it would be granted to him. He had this understanding that his master thought the best for them. Whenever they call on Jesus, He will answer them. Jesus is keen about the safety of His disciples and He never left them alone. He is always with them to make sure they get to their destination in peace. Jesus ordered Peter to come, and he stepped forward to walk to Jesus.
I don’t know why the Lord Jesus would ask Peter to walk on water towards Him, but that may be the same reason that whatever is impossible with men is possible with God. I am sure Peter must have fixed his eyes on Jesus as he gently placed his leg on water. He was amazed there was this force on the water that resisted him from sinking. He began to walk towards his master, and I can tell you the Lord Jesus was smiling at him as he made one step after another.

As they placed their sight on Jesus, their safety was guaranteed.

Out of twelve disciples, it was only one who had the confidence to place such a huge demand of impossibility in the sight of men. Some of them may have looked at Peter with the look, ‘Are you all right? Who has ever walked on the sea before? Curiosity kills the cat. They will be like, “You never asked Him to save us for Him to cause you to walk on the sea”. But they were looking at him as he placed his right leg and the left followed.
They were amazed to see the impossible happening right before their eyes that Peter could stand on the water. They desired to make the same request to be in the Guinness Book of Records as some might think. Here is the point: as they opened their eyes and mouths wide, looking at Peter walking towards the Master’s, it dawned on them that their destiny was secured. They could not have anything to be afraid of. As they placed their sight on Jesus, their safety was guaranteed.

We have to remain steadfast and fix our sight on Jesus.

30 – “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 – And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (Mathew chapter 14 verses 30 to 31)
It was when Peter removed his eyes from Jesus that he began to sink. In the Christian walk, we are not meant to lose focus on Jesus. To focus one’s sight on somewhere else rather than on Jesus is never safe. There will be times when the evil wind of life will blow; it will blow to the extent that it will want to blow one out of the right track. We have to remain steadfast and fix our sight on Jesus.

Conclusion:

Peter cried out to Jesus for help and the Lord Jesus helped him. There is never a time we will call the attention of our Lord Jesus Christ that He will not show up. It was clear that once they stepped into the ship, the wind ceased. Whatever makes one losecus on Jesus is a complete distraction. We should not allow any form of distraction to come between our sight of Jesus. Anything that interrupts one’s sight of Jesus has the tendency to refocus him or her.
