You must make your stand known as a foreigner

1 – “After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

2 – And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

3 – Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?

4 – Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 – And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.” (Esther chapter 3 verses 1 to 5)

Your faith and belief is not quite known in the days of comfort but your faith and belief will be well known in the days of discomfort and trials

It was obvious that Haman received such an enviable promotion that made him the second in command, but that should not make him to exalt himself in the place of God. Mordecai was not envious of Haman promotion, he was more concerned about his faith. Man cannot be looked on as though he is God Almighty. No man has what it takes to take the place of God in the life of any believer.

One significant thing about Mordecai is that he was so mindful of who he is even in the strange land. It was so obvious that he was content to stand by what he believed and he was ready to die by it. Your faith and belief is not quite known in the days of comfort but your faith and belief will be well known in the days of discomfort and trials. You can’t tell people what you belief in until they see you stand by it even at the point of death.

Mordecai understood the need to stand by what he believed in

One more significant thing about Mordecai at this moment is that he did not to allow fear grip him. He saw the way people were careful not to offend Haman. People were actually trembling with reverence Haman because they knew what was involved in his position. They knew whatever he tells the king, the king has to believe him. They were reverencing him because they knew he has the power to kill at the moment and the power to make alive in the human sense.

Mordecai understood the need to stand by what he believed in.  He must have checked his age and know he is no longer living younger. He preferred to keep a legacy that will last till eternity if that will only require him standing by his faith even in the midst of all odd and facing the judgement of death. Many would have declined their faith and belief at such point. Even if it will warrant him alone to be alive for others to die, it would have made so much sense to such persons.

To know what that inspires in the life of anyone,  that one’s allegiance is never to God. May God have mercy to anyone who has fallen victim to such scenario.

Mordecai thought what will he be remembered for if he chooses to deny his faith in such at crucial time in the history of the Jews in the strange land. To reverence Haman would have caused more harm than good living in the strange land. I will explain better. Once anyone turns his face to reverence a fellow human being, at the moment his turns his back completely at God Almighty. To know what that inspires in the life of anyone,  that one’s allegiance is never to God. May God have mercy to anyone who has fallen victim to such scenario.

3 – “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 – Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5 – Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;” (Exodus chapter 20 verses 3 to 5)

The laws of God’s word was written in his heart and it was his responsibility to make it a reality. You can’t continue to compromise and think that is the standard on how things should be. May God Almighty grant  everyone of us the grace to live out our faith and belief in Christ Jesus our Saviour, Lord and Master.

Conclusion

There are times in the journey of destiny where our faith, belief and stand will be tested. You might think in the strange land that no one knows you, that is never right. People know you. People are actually following your footsteps. Do not be the reason why many deny their faith in God and their belief in the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross.
