You are the light of the world
14 – “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 – Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Mathew chapter 5 verses 14 to 16)
It is significant that everyone was born with this light that has the capacity to brighten the whole place if once enlightened
You can realised that on His teaching on the mountain on that fateful day, Jesus said we are the light of the world. Though He specified it to be an individual responsibility when He said you are the light of the world. This verse of the scripture caught my attention as never before. We are in the earth, but Jesus never mentioned you are the light of the world. He emphasised you are the light of the world.
That shows how much God can trust us who believe in the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross. It is significant that everyone was born with this light that has the capacity to brighten the whole place if once enlightened. You can understand at the moment Jesus made this statement, He was serious about it. This is humanity with the race of his or her destiny and fulfilling it.
You can’t continue to depend on others for you to be able to show relevance through the illumination they were able to release
If Jesus said you are the light of the world, there is need to take that serious. You can’t continue to depend on others for you to be able to show relevance through the illumination they were able to release. Yes, you are leveraging on the light others were able to generate. If they failed to release their light, obscurity will be the order of the day. That will be a terrible moment in the whole earth.
If you do not care all this while, I believe it is time to pick and show interest in making your light shine. But the issue here is how can someone makes his or her light shine when he or she has not accepted the fact that he or she is the light of the world. Many can dispute this very fact with everything that is within them that they are the light of the world.
In the process we are unable to release our light to shine, that will result in the abuse of purpose
It simply means darkness has encroached the earth due to the worldly system that is embedded and encroached in darkness. Jesus says man is the light that has the capacity to drive away the darkness that encroached the earth. You can remember that Jesus was not talking to lions, tigers or elephants. Those one does not have such great capacity to transform the world system.
Being the light of the world, we are solution bearers. The world will never find it’s true meaning until we are able to release our light to shine. In the process we are unable to release our light to shine, that will result in abuse of purpose. From the scripture in Mathew chapter 5 verses 14, it became obvious that one of the major purposes why man came into existence is the chase away darkness.
Darkness encroached the more when light fails to release its virtues
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John chapter 1 verses 5)
There is something that darkness does not comprehend and that is a light that shines. For the reason darkness does not comprehend shining light is the prove that everyone’s light needs to shine more. You can understand it better by the tragedy that befalls the earth when one’s light fails to shine. Darkness encroached the more when light fails to release its virtues.
Darkness is made manifest in the midst of the absence of light
The dominion of darkness is the prove of lack of the light. Yes, darkness thrives where there is no light. Darkness is made manifest in the midst of the absence of light. Darkness can be the order of the day because light has not shown up. When light proves its relevance, it is obvious that darkness will automatically disappear like the vapour in the sky. There is no trace of darkness when the light shines.
We are expected to grow with the understanding that we are the light of the world. What world was Jesus talking about? He was talking about a system that has so much polluted the earth and caused so much darkness as though there was never a trace of light. The fall of man brought man much reproach and limitations. Man was encroached in a den of absolute darkness that eluded him from living the true life that he was created to live.
Conclusion:
When Jesus said you are the light of the world, He was actually talking about you being the solution bearer of whatever darkness that have invaded the earth. We are so much relevant to the plans of God concerning the earth and its total liberation. We are equal to the task and we have what it takes as believers to execute the will of God on earth and to bring glory to His name.
