Value your discipleship

One of the greatest challenges in the christendom today is not that there are not enough people who have not received salvation; one of the greatest challenges in the christendom this day is not that there are not people who enrolled for discipleship; one of the greatest challenges in the christendom now is people undergoing discipleship who did not value their discipleship. Yes, that is the problem of the christendom now.

No amount of sentiment will help anyone who has not made up his or her in the pursuit of something. That people are not genuinely disciples, might not really be as a result of the inconsistency of the disciplinarian. People who are not genuinely disciples is as a result of the fact that they never value the whole process of discipleship. Any process to turn out better one did not value will never make such tremendous impact in the person’s life. You must value the process if you must reap its great dividends. You must value the whole process of discipleship if you will turn out a better person.

Who is a disciple? A disciple is a discipline follower.

Becoming a disciplined follower might be in the positively perspective or in the negative perspective. But when is comes to becoming a true disciple, you must go through the funnels of discipline and place a high value on the whole process of discipleship. You must be ready to take the pain if it will be gainful to you. Discipleship also means discipline process.

If a disciple is a discipline follower, which means to become a true disciple one must be highly committed. To be committed is to value the whole process of discipleship. To  become a disciple of Jesus, you must place value to the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, follow the principles and be willing to obey everything that is written there in. Dr David Ogbueli puts it this way, “Half obedience equals no obedience. ”

Discipleship also means discipline process

18 – And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 – And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 – And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” (Mathew chapter 4 verses 18 to 20)

Jesus walking by the sea of Galillee, why was Jesus walking by the sea of Galillee! His father is never a Fisher man and the family business is never fishing. He was looking for a true disciple who will subject to the whole process. There was a magnetic force between the disciplinarian and the disciple, and that is discipleship. Jesus was looking for those who lack the true discipleship and that have caused them to be living out of purpose.

Lack of proper yielding to discipleship makes people to be walking out of purpose. Yes, you can hardly see a person who is well disciple living out of purpose. Understand the fact that these men where professional Fishermen. They were born into such business and they grow up in it. For several years they have been in such business and they were willing to die doing the same business because that was all they know how to do. But the course changed and these men were willing to change and follow. If you must be a genuine disciple, you must be willing to follow.

If you must be a genuine disciple, you must be willing to follow.

In verses 19 Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” And the next verse says, “And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.”

Your willingness to follow is a proof that you value the process and your willingness to follow till the end is a proof that you value yourself. The first key to discipleship is your willingness to follow. If you are not yet willing to follow, forget about joining the queue when the fire of discipleship is being ignited you will soon jump out of the queue.

The process of discipleship is not a respecter of anyone. It has one goal which is Christlikeness in character and in behaviour. Paul on his account as a disciplinarian made it obvious in 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 1,

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (NIV)

Paul was critically saying that there is no two ways about this, it is only one way to this whole process of becoming like Jesus. He said if my ways by any means contradict the teachings and the principles of Jesus Christ, do not accept it. You must yield yourself to accept the teachings and the principles of Jesus Christ if you must become a true disciple for Him.

Conclusion

God is still looking for vessels to use. And God will first work on you before He uses you. I pray you will yield yourself and value the whole process of discipleship of becoming a vessel of honour.
