To be like God
5 – “And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.
6 – And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
7 – Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” (Exodus chapter 34 verses 5 to 7)
- The first value God revealed was merciful (compassionate):
“(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.” (Deuteronomy chapter 4 verses 31)
- The second value God revealed was gracious (generosity):
“And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.” (Exodus chapter 33 verses 19)
- The third value God revealed was long-suffering (patience, endurance):
“The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.” (Number chapter 14 verses 18)
- The fourth value God revealed abundance in goodness (nice):
“And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,” (Exodus chapter 34 verses 6)
- The fifth value God revealed was truth (integrity, honesty):
“He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.” (Deuteronomy chapter 32 verses 4)
- The sixth value God revealed was keeping mercy for thousands years (a covenant keeping God)
“It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;” (2Chronicles chapter 5 verses 13)
- The seventh value God revealed was forgiven iniquity (forgives):
1 – “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 – Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 – Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;” (Psalms chapter 103 verses 1 to 3)
- The eighth value God revealed was justice (just):
“Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.” (Isaiah chapter 45 verses 21)
