Things Jesus paid for
1 – “When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 – And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3 – Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 – Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 – They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 – As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7 – Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8 – Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:” (John chapter 18 verses 1 to 8)
Things Jesus paid for
1. Sickness:
3 – “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 – Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 – But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah chapter 53 verses 3 to 5)
2. Poverty:
24 – “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 – Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.” (Psalms chapter 118 verses 24 to 25)
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” (2Corinthians chapter 8 verses 9)
3. Shame:
“For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.” (Isaiah chapter 61 verses 7)
4. Burden:
28 – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 – Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 – For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Mathew chapter 11 verses 28 to 30)
5. Curses:
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” (Galatians chapter 3 verses 13)
6. Rejection:
3 – “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 – Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah chapter 53 verses 3 to 4)
Conclusion:
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John chapter 15 verses 13)
The cross is the greatest demonstration of love. Jesus paid it all for the redemption of humanity.
