The right vessel for the Master’s used

“Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.” (Mathew chapter 9 verses 17)

Every thing was in tight and it was looking good

I can’t forget in a hurry a scenario that happened in the time past. Though it has happened long ago but its impact is as fresh as it happens now. It was one of the December periods when everyone arrived home. December has always been a period of get together by the members of the family. It is a compulsory routine for everyone, wherever you are as a family member,  you must strive to make it home. It is one of the happiest moments in the entire family.

On that fateful evening, for the fact that no one knows how long power holding company can be trusted. My eldest brother and I were going out when we decided to take along with us a container to buy fuel with for the generator. I went about searching for container and I finally searched one. It was one of the containers we used to buy fuel. Every thing was in tight and it was looking good. I quickly get into the car and my brother drove off.

It done on me that the container I thought to be good was not fit for fuel again

After we are done with what we went to handle, on our way back he drove into a filling station. I kept the container on the ground for the fuel attendee. The fuel was poured into the container, I paid and I was about lifting the container when I noticed it was so light as though the fuel was poured into a lyon bag. I should have lifted it up with force but in this case where I have seen the situation of the container, I have to gently lift it up.

I can’t imagine I was actually the person who brought such container to buy fuel. It done on me that the container I thought to be good was not fit for fuel again.  I quickly brought it to the knowledge of my eldest brother that this container is too flexible to carry this fuel. Instead to keep the container in the boot of the car, I was afraid it might burst out and the fuel pour away.

If not, you are reading my story now

I told my eldest brother that I am afraid to keep the container on the floor of the car, that I have to carry the container in my arms. It sounds funny right, may be it must have happened to you or someone you know. If not, you are reading my story now. My brother was driving gently knowing the situation at the moment. I don’t know what was going through his mind, but I can tell you mine was restless with so many thoughts. Yes, it was the battle field of the mind.

Yes, my mind was already at home when we were still on the way driving home. I can imagine what devastation that can cause if the container happened to break on my arms as the result of the fuel in it, it will spill all over the car and you know what that means. Nobody is aiming for evil but at the moment it sounds as though one was calling evil to take place. It done on me if there was any fire outbreak, and this fuel spill in this car, we are not saved. Though I tried as much as I can to bind those thoughts. But it was still the battle field of the mind.

It would have been a terrible and horrible moment if not of the mercy of God

Thanks to God for His mercy that endures forever. God’s mercy was made manifest upon the life of my brother, I and the car. Yes, God also preserved the car. That is how far the mercy of God Almighty can reach out. When mercy speaks, it speaks for all. When mercy saved us, it also went as far as possible to preserve whatever that concerns us. It is of the Lord’s mercy we were not consumed. Of course, we can’t take that for granted.

Nobody would have believed that the container was good at the first place. I would have been blamed that I did not check the container very well before making my conclusion. Some will say, I should have known that that very container was never good for fuel again. It would have been a terrible and horrible moment if not of the mercy of God. I can still sense God mercy all over as I write this.

On the way home, the container was still in tight. By the time we drove into the compound and packed, I quickly stepped out of the car as my brother turned off the engine. I was close to the generator when one end of the container broke, I have to quickly raised that end while I beckon on my brother who quickly ran, opened the generator fuel tank and I poured in the fuel from the very end that broke out.

To be the right vessel for the Master’s used, you must meet the standard

You see, everyone one of us knew it was God mercy at work all through the whole process. That mercy still speaks till this very moment. When God saved  a man, God is never in a hurry to used him. God takes the time to work effectively on the vessel He will used to reveal His glory to the dieing world. God must work on the vessel to meet up the standard of the vessel He must used.

God has to work in you before He will work through you. That is not optional by the standard of the vessel God will use. That is why when God is passing one through some processes of discipleship, he or she should know that God is perfecting His Will in and through the vessel He will used. To be the right vessel for the Master’s used, you must meet the standard. There is no sentiment attached to that.

Conclusion:

You can’t expect God to use you the way you are. You can attest to yourself that you are not yet fit for the Master’s used. You have to yield yourself to  proper discipleship into becoming the vessel for the Master’s used. It is your willingness to counts now. If you are willing, God will make you that vessel of honour.
