The church

What is church?

How come on a particular day everyone is dressed up and headed to this particular place? Is it gathering of people or a building? Is it a lifestyle or a habit? Is it a blessing or a curse?

Sometimes we miss the true context of a particular thing and we focus on another thing. Before we dive into “Church” proper, I will like to ask a very particular question to be able to drive everyone home. Why is there so much discrimination especially in the church despite what is being taught in this place?

To some church means politics and rank

Does it mean church is a place where we go to  showcase a new fashion style,  decorating the containers whole while the content is as rotten as a spoilt egg with an unpleasant smell that can cause havoc in the entire place. To some church means politics and rank. They go to church just for the purpose of recognision and acknowledgement.

Is it a hiding place where atrocities are covered up with the guise of “God bless you”. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? This question needs immediate answer.

1 – “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2 – God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3 – Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4 – Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 – For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6 – Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” (Romans chapter 6 verses 1 to 6)

In the worldly sense, church is a “building” used for christian worship. You see, it is a building of worship! What then is worship?

Worship is the attitude on expression of reverence and adoration for a deity

Worship is the attitude on expression of reverence and adoration for a deity. In this case God Almighty. So, using the above definition would you call what you are doing every Sunday church? Are you truly there to worship or to be noticed and admired? Are you there for one purpose of gaining contact, making fame and may be find a wife or husband as the case may be.

Church has been so abused to the point that it is now an abomination in the ears of the people of other religion. Church is not just a building, it is you! Yes, you! How? You carry God.  You are a vessel fit for His use. You are meant to bring worship wherever you are.  That is why a gathering of people to worship God can be termed a church service.

26 – “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 – That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians chapter 5 verses 26 to 27)

Church is a the physical person which is the temple of the most high God.

The bible says that the church is the bride of Christ. He has sanctified it unto Himself to present it without blemish. So tell me, is it the building He sanctified or you and I. Church is beyond just the building or the four corners of the building. Church is more of a person. Church is the physical person which is the temple of the most high God.

16 – “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

17 – If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” (1Corianthians chapter 3 verses 16 to 17)

Conclusion:

Being a christian is not about your denomination or doctrine, it is about your walk with God.  Your personal conviction with Christ Jesus paves way for your genuine with God. How you as His church (bride) have kept yourself at the point of meeting Him. Take a leaf from the ten virgins.
