He was not that selfish and sentimental to think of himself and forget about others

Mordecai was on point with his action. He was not fighting for his own freedom alone. He was not that selfish and sentimental to think of himself and forget about others. He was fighting for the salvation of everyone. Putting on sack clothes was for a fight to liberate the Jews from the evil that was about to befall them.

He has witnessed such occurrence in the time past and it was bloody. They who were alive to witness what happened in time past never wished to witness such occurrence again. When Mordecai cried bitterly, he had a memory of what happened in the past and he knew it will not be pleasant with the present day. He chose not to seat back. To seat back in a time as such will cause havoc to the whole Jews and he will regret not taking action.
