Dealing with the past
“Ones past is never meant to be a stumbling block, but a stepping stone.”
“One of the right keys to responsibility fulfillment is dealing with the past.”
A friend of mine Sunday once told me about a terrible event he indulged into during his days on campus before he met Christ and made it right with Jesus Christ. As a student he was living a loss life. One day he met this young beautiful elegant girl, and he eyes never lost hold on her. He went after her, wooed her and after a while she accepted his proposal. They became close friend. They also indulged fully in oral sex as no man business. This grip holds on both of them that they can’t do without sex in every hour as long as they are together. This was so serious that in one of the occasion, his missed his exam that resulted to carry over.
Let your past don’t hold you down
Upon this, he told me he has vowed never to allow her to pass the night in his house. Both of them were living off campus. Not until that fateful day they went for an outing. They came back late in the night that warranted she has to passed the night in his place. it was after that night, about some weeks later she disclosed to him that she was pregnant.
He told me, at the moment he was not capable to bear such responsibility. They had an agreement that resulted to abortion as the best option. She went in and almost died in the process. It was at that point, he prayed to God, if only he will be saved from this mess, he will serve Him all the days of his life. She made it, but it was hell. That very incident drew him close to God. He is now into full time ministry. Yet he told me some time the devil will bring that ugly picture of that terrible past to run through his memory. All he does whenever it shows up is to wipe it away by the blood of Jesus.
God is not holding your past against you.
It is wise to always know you have no past in Christ Jesus. God is not holding your past against you. There are those whose past so trouble and shame them, that they despair of being used of God in a significant way. They are so afraid to pick up their ministry responsibility because of what they have been through or what they are experiencing at the moment. Some have concluded God will never use them for any thing serious. They believe they can never be the strong Christian they ever wanted to be because of who they were, what they have done in time past or what was done to them. John said,
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John chapter 1 verses 12.)
Dealing with the past is an important course to fulfilling one’s responsibility. It does not matter who you were even some minutes ago; it does not matter what crime you must have committed in the past; it does not matter how people are seeing you because of your past; when you come to Jesus in repentance, He takes care of your past, He forgive and forget all you have done and been through. That is good news. Paul wrote to the church of Corinth and he said,
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians chapter 5 verses 17.)
Why would God not hold your past against you, it’s because God loves you and there is a mandate, a responsibility you were created to accomplish. There are bigger things God is in to do with your life than thinking of limiting youq by your past. God has big plans concerning you, your life and the world at large. Your past in nothing to God for you are a vessel He wants to reveal His glory through.
Conclusion
It is obvious you could have make some dangerous mistakes in the past that made you start losing your self esteem. For the fact that you are still alive is a proof that God still loves and care about you. He will heal you and makes you whole again. Just yield yourself to Him and you will become happier person.
