Being a courageous leader
There is need to be a courageous leader if you must lead right. There is a saying that a company of sheep led by a lion will defeat a company of lion led by a sheep. As the leader so are the people. When you look at the leader you should be able to identify the kind of followers that very leader will produce. An individual’s leadership style should affect those looking up to him.
Being courageous as a leader is an individual’s responsibility. One has to stir up the mentality to be courageous. Being courageous is one of the vital factors to successful leadership. When one looses it in the place of being courageous, that can affect the whole process of his leadership. The effectiveness of one’s leadership is the effectiveness of him being courageous.

When Joshua was to assume the leadership position after the death of his leader Moses, God approached him with an inspiring word that will enable him to be and remain on track to discharge an effective and efficient leadership. It was obvious if only he will decide to keep to the factors of being strong and courageous, he will make the best of leadership. In the book of Joshua chapter 1 verses 5 to 6 says,
5 – “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
6 – Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.”
It was obvious if only he will decide to keep to the factors of being strong and courageous, he will make the best of leadership
God promised him that no man will be able to stand before him all the days of his life, but one thing he gets to keep in front is the mental image of being strong and courageous. God went ahead to promise him that as He was with Moses so shall He be with him. What a glorious honour to receive such word of encouragement. The same is with you and I hearing this, this day. God is making the same offer to us.
God promised He will not fail nor forsake anyone who assumes the leadership position with a strong and courageous mindset, maintaining a right standing with God. If being strong and courageous is not that necessary God would not have been taken much time talking about it. Being strong and courageous is the only way to confront and withstand any challenge in the process of discharging your leadership.

In verses 6 of Joshua chapter 1, God made it clear that a leader needs to be strong and courageous for the sake of the people he is leading. When people have decided to follow you, you get to give them reasons why they should keep following. Being strong and courageous is one of the reasons people will want to follow a leader. People want a leader who can defend them and grant them security. People want a leader who will see the promised land and the giants on the way to hinder, yet he will take the lead to confront the giants.
People does not want to be led by a weak or passive leader. For the sake of those following your leadership you have to prove to them that you are capable. If they begin to doubt your capacity to lead, they will withdraw from you when you need them most. It quite dangerous and disastrous to lead people who are not convinced with your style of leadership. Once people start doubting your leadership, they might think you blind to what the future holds.
People does not want to be led by a weak or passive leader
“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua chapter 1 verses 7)
God here is a kind of pleading with us that all we need is to be strong and be very courageous. The journey is not going to be easy. Of course nothing good comes easy but all things are possible to them who have found reasons to always be strong and very courageous with their leadership.
Some days is going to be tough, you have to be strong and courageous. People will criticise you, you have to be strong and courageous. People may doubt your leadership, you have to be strong and courageous. Sometimes it will seem as though you are standing alone, even your close followers have deserted you, you have to be strong and very courageous.
Conclusion
Do not forget that your leadership will be texted. There are times when you will call on people and no one will be there to answer. Don’t be in a haste to doubt yourself and your leadership. You are in a training ground that you need to learn how to be strong and very courageous. In the midst of all odd, don’t give up on yourself. Don’t give up on your leadership. If only you will stand strong and very courageous, you will be celebrated.
