The dread of discouragement
- Discouragement hurts one self image:
“But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” (1Kings chapter 19 verses 4)
It causes one to see him or herself less than he or she really is. No one can be discourage and be courage at the same time. Discouragement has the tendency to crunch one’s ability to perform. No matter the momentum one has gathered, if he or she gets discouraged, he or she cannot do otherwise. It is encouragement that motivates one’s self image and energies him or her.
- Discouragement causes one to evade one’s responsibility:
“And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?” (1Kings chapter 19 verses 9)
There is no one who will accomplish any responsibility by being discouraged. No amount of courage will help anyone who is defeat by discouragement. It is wise to know that anyone who is discouraged is already defeated even before confronting any challenges. Discouragement is an enemy never to welcome in the first place. It have the capacity to cripple one’s ability to do exploit.
- Discouragement causes one to blame others for his or her predicament.
9 – “And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 – And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” (1Kings chapter 19 verses 9 to 10)
Discouragement will crunch someone self esteem and if care is not taking, he or she will be looking at blaming others than taking responsibility for his or her fault. Once one succeeded in seeing faults at others than he or she can see in oneself, that can drain one ability completely. Anyone who keep blaming others at any given responsibility will never amount to anything significant.
- Discouragement causes one to blur the facts:
“Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (1kings chapter 19 verses 18)
Discouragement is contagious. One needs to be mindful of his or association. The people we bring close to ourselves have a way of depositing courage or discourage to us. You can’t be keeping company of those who entertain discouragement and still expecting something great to manifest. Surround yourself with those who will keep motivating you to stand when you are down and keep pressing on.
