3 major components in studying God’s word
1 – “For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
2 – If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 – How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 – Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 – Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 – That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:” (Ephesians chapter 3 verses 1 to 6)
12 “I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men!” (Ecclesiastes chapter 1 verses 12 to 13 NIV)
You must make up your heart to seek knowledge and wisdom through longing to study
There is a law of study which basically known as the law to seek and you shall find. This Law states that for everything one desires to achieve, have, or master, one needs to convert it into a study. This simply means for whatever one wants, the questions in his or her heart, he or she has to turn the questions, problems, and obstacles one faces into opportunities to embark on an inquiry, to research, and to carry out fact-finding expeditions.
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” (Mathew chapter 7 verses 7)
It was clear by our Lord Jesus that it is in individual’s responsibility to seek which is to find. If one does not stirs up the desire to seek, he or she will not find. This is the primate task God has given to everyone as result that He wants us to grow in knowledge and wisdom. You must make up your heart to seek knowledge and wisdom through longing to study. You can bear it that not to embark on this task to seek understanding is to do without all the treasures and resources that God has already made available for everyone.
When one desires to study, he or she will learn. When one desires not to study, he or she will not learn
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” (Proverbs chapter 25 verses 2)
You can realise that precious metals cannot be found just at the surface of the earth. Gold, diamonds, and silver are buried, concealed and hidden deep beneath the earth’s surface where they undergo high pressure of formation. So the Lord God Almighty, the Maker of the universe hides His treasures of the kingdom, the kingdom secrets and His glorious truth. To access them one must be ready to pay the price. Yes, it is interesting to know that God makes them available to the diligent seeker who are ready to go the extra mile to dig deep in learning.
“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” (Proverbs chapter 23 verses 23)
It was the wisest man who ever lived that admonished everyone to buy the truth and not to sell it. You must make up your heart to buy the truth for yourself. It is the truth you are able to buy and keep that will make you. When one seek, he or she will find. When one did not seek, he or she will not find. When one desires to study, he or she will learn. When one desires not to study, he or she will not learn. The choice is in individual’s hands.
There are three major components to put in place in digging deep into God’s word.
- The component to reading or listening:
“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” (1 Timothy chapter 4 verses 13)
Apostle Paul also advised his spiritual son Timothy to give attention to reading. I A studious person is a lover of books, whether in the written or audio formats.
- The component to meditation:
This vital process implies a definite focusing of one’s thoughts on something so as to understand it deeply. This is taking deep what one has study deep for the hidden mystery. One must realise that this is a deliberate act. When one is undergoing meditation, there are two terms that come to mind, which is murmuring on a particular word or verses of the bible. This implies one repetitive chants of what he or she has studied within. The second is having imaginations.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua chapter 1 verses 8)
The lord God Almighty admonished Joshua to make studying the Word a life style. Whatever one is able to read or heard needs to be broken down and being able to digest before it can be used and benefits oneself and others.
- The component to practice or action:
22 – “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 – For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 – For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 – But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” (James chapter 1 verses 22 to 25)
After one must have studied and observed a quality meditation on those words, the next in line is taking action, practicing and executing. The place of action, practice and execution makes one’s life relevant. The end point of whatever one has learnt is going into action.
Conclusion:
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy chapter 2 verses 15)
We asked that God will help every Christian believers to get the knowledge and understanding of the importance of the God’s Word, that we may not begin to lose heart in times of trouble but with a diligent heart and focused mind begin to study, to search and to seek out the hinding treasures and all the provisions God had already made available for anyone who believes.
