Fighting the good fight of faith

5 – “But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

6 – For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 – Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (2Timothy chapter 4 verses 5 to 8)

Any fight that does not define its course in the fulfillment of destiny is never a good fight.

Apostle Paul towards the end of ministry proclaimed it aloud that he has fought a good fight. That should be a concern to every believer. We exist to fight a fight according to the statement of Apostle Paul. Everyone who is living is fighting a fight. The question is, what fight are we created to fight? We are created to fight a fight to fulfilling purpose and destiny.  Any fight contrary to that is not worth fighting for.

We are not created to just fight. If you go about fighting without knowing the course for which you are fighting, you might get yourself overworked and if care is not taken, you might loss your life in the process without any legacy. There is a fight that is a good fight. There is also a fight that is never a good fight. Any fight that does not define its course in the fulfillment of destiny is never a good fight.

No one can expect satan to run the system of the world the way God ever expected man to run it

For the fact we are created in the image of God after His like to exercise dominion over every other creature, positioned man in the place to be in charge. The fall of man brought doubt in the place of man and his ability to exercise full dominion. That caused the earth to a battlefield of the kingdom of light against the kingdom of darkness. The earth that used to be a peaceful place all of a sudden became a place of dispute and combat.

We can see from the beginning that man was running the system of the earth before everything turned around when man chose to go against the instructions of God and yield to the deception of the devil. That made man handed over the earthly system to satan which have ruined the world in general. No one can expect satan to run the system of the world the way God ever expected man to run it. There is nothing good with the devil, so nothing good will be expected from the devil.

So it is the duty of every believer to enforce the finished works of Christ on the cross thereby eliminating the work of darkness

I believe you can now picture what the battle is all about. You can’t pretend that you live as though you owe life nothing. Such person is an accident in the making. There are challenges everyday and that is why Jesus had to leave His throne and position, stepped down on earth to fix what Adam spoilt. Jesus came so that He can reclaim the lost kingdom which man lost to satan by falling to his deception.

It cost Jesus everything to accept in the first place to be fashioned in the form of man, going through the whole process for the redemption of man. Jesus went to calvary and descended into hell and His resurrection brought victory to mankind and total restoration of the earth to man. So it is the duty of every believer to enforce the finished works of Christ on the cross thereby eliminating the work of darkness.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” (2Timothy chapter 4 verses 7)

Apostle Paul said he has fought a good fight, and he did not end there, he said he has finished his course and kept the faith. What course was Apostle Paul saying he had finished? Many are still striving to know the reason of their existence and what they are created to accomplish. Here is a man saying he has finished his course in full confidence. That might not sound great to many people, but it is also caution statement to everyone. Verses 5 of this very chapter will help explain the course Apostle Paul was saying he had finished.

“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (2Timothy chapter 4 verses 5)

Apostle Paul instructed his son Timothy doing the work of an evangelist. Anyone who is doing the work of an evangelist is fighting the good fight of faith. We are saved to serve others. The good fight of faith is depopulating the kingdom of darkness and populating the kingdom of light. It is in doing the work of soul winning that one will make full proof of his or her ministry. It is in doing the work of an evangelist that the light of God’s glory will shine forth the more and displace darkness.

Conclusion

Every believer is called for a course and that is to fight the good fight of faith thereby bringing souls to God and populating the kingdom. There are many held captivity by the enemy and we are in to set the captives free by proclaiming the good news of the gospel. We are expected to fight the good fight of faith.
