6 outstanding qualities of the servant of God
Yes, my eyes opened to the qualities that qualifies anyone who desires to be a servant of God
6 – Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
7 – And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8 – And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” (Job chapter 1 verses 6 to 8)
This day in the very early hour of 30th July, 2024, I was studying the bible when my eyes were opened to the book of Job as the scripture above. Yes, my eyes opened to the qualities that qualify anyone who desires to be a servant of God. It dawned on me that this subject is a call for genuine servants of God.
God exposes the qualities of a true servant of His
What drew my attention to this subject is God Almighty testifying about the qualities of anyone who desires to be His servant. It is amazing that God was testifying with the reference to someone like Job who already was outstanding to this very course. Those qualities are not impossible to stir up, there is every possibility that anyone who made up his or her heart to become a faithful servant of God to acquire such amazing qualities.
We are going to look deeply into verses eight, to be able to draw out the mystery in such verse. This verse got me so hard that I could not hold it back that I started discussing my view with my lovely wife. God exposes the qualities of a true servant of His. And we are going to look at them one after the other. With a deep joy in my heart I am writing this and I want us to go for a journey.
6 Outstanding Qualities of the Servant of God
“And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” (Job chapter 1 verses 8)
- Consider my servant Job:
God said the satan that Job is His servant. This is beyond been created in the image after the likeness of God Almighty. God is the creator of all, but by character wise He is never the Father of all. God implies here that Job has a cordial relationship with Him. It is beyond knowing God but having a walk with Him. There is something about his walk with God that made him exceptional.
14 – “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 – As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John chapter 10 verses 14 to 15)
If God is the good shepherd, let us be the good sheep that know their shepherd and follow His principles diligently.
- There is none like him:
The servant of God must be exceptional. He is singled out. The way he composes himself in everything is top notch. He manner of approach is unusual. Among others he is so committed to the principles that he is living the principles and the principles living through him. He is a law abiding citizen who is never in the thought to compromise.
5 – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 – Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 – But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:” (Philippians chapter 2 verses 5 to 7)
- A perfect man:
It has been said that no one has arrived in the place of perfection. Here is a man like Job that the Lord God Almighty in His assessment attributed him as a perfect man. This implies there is no form of guilt found in him. The servant of God must be excellent in all that he does. There is no form of blame attached with him. He does whatever he does in the view of God’s way. I believe he had the question always ringing in his heart whenever he is faced with a responsibility, ‘How would God have this done.’ Anyone with such mindset will always have things done God’s way thereby glorifying God in everything.
“Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.” (1Kings chapter 8 verses 61)
- An upright man:
When God said that someone is upright in all that he does, it implies that he is a man of integrity. Integrity is one of the most vital commodity in life, yet it is one of the missing ingredient in life. There are men everywhere but when we talk of integrity, who can found. For God to call Job an upright man, that means he is a man one can trust with everything. He is the kind who can never rob anyone of his or her inheritance. He understood life is not about satisfying oneself, life is about treating others better than you treat yourself.
“You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (Deuteronomy chapter 25 verses 15 NIV)
- One that fears God:
God testified that His servant Job fears Him. Job reverence God from the depth of his heart without any reservation. In everything he does he puts God first. He is a man who promotes God and always want to see God being glorified in everything. He is so mindful about the affairs with his view on God. He is so keen about his God in everything he does that even satan knew it. He understood that he is first the man of God before he is the man of the people. He thinks about God first before thinking about the opinion of men. Because he has the fear of God, he was flowing in terrific wisdom.
“Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs chapter 2 verses 5)
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.” (Psalms chapter 111 verses 10)
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs chapter 1 verses 7)
- He eschewed evil:
The servant of God rejects evil. He that rejects evil rejects the devil. Devil is the true source of all evil because he is evil. Whenever a servant of God eschews evil, that is a heartbreak to the devil. The first goal of the devil is to strive for a servant of God to have a stain of evil, with that he the devil can easily gain access. That is why the devil have tried all round to penetrate Job but he could not gain access. Devil must have tried some others of which they succumbed and became victims. In the case of Job, he eschewed evil completely.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” (Mathew chapter 6 verses 13)
17 – “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 – A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” (Mathew chapter 7 verses 17 to 18)
Conclusion:
To become a servant of God calls for a huge responsibility. But the grace to travail and stand firm for the Lord God is made available.
