10 threat to effective leadership
1. Not understanding oneself:
It is amazing that some persons are still confused about everything about themselves. They can’t comprehend issues surrounding their birth, the parents who brought them into the world, the family they are born into and the state of the family. They keep looking at the situation of things without asking and seeking for the right solution to tackle those situation.
You are yet to understand that it was God’s pleasure that they were brought forth. They are yet to realise that they are there as solution bearers. It is yet to come to their knowledge that they are there to solve problems. What they hate and the situation they detest are what they are created to correct. Failure in understanding oneself can result to failure in fulfilling purpose.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm chapter 139 verses 14)

2. Not understanding you have to believe in yourself
Any thing that cause one to doubt him or herself has succeeded in creating a path of defeat to him or her. Even if the whole earth never believed in you and your existence, you get to prove the whole earth wrong by believing in yourself. It is in believing in yourself that stirs up the inner potential to push you into action to create tremendous impacts.
Nothing in life is as disastrous as not believing oneself. Nothing in life is as beautiful as believing oneself. If you don’t believe in your ability, your ability will fail you. The first step to conquer in your leadership is to believe in yourself and believe in your capacity. There is no clear view to one’s destination in leadership when he or she does not believe in oneself.
“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2Timothy chapter 1 verses 12)

3. Not understanding one’s peculiarity
You should come to the knowledge that God must have taken all the time in creating just you. You are not created ordinary. You are never made to live ordinary. You will not exercise your leadership ordinary. You have a true source. When you carefully and sincerely study your existence, you will understand that you are unique and there is no one like you.
You get to see yourself that way if you must make any impact in your leadership. You should know God created you special for whatever responsibility He created you to accomplish. If you don’t think yourself special, you will not do special things. It takes those who think and carry themselves special, to end up doing special things that will impact lives and change the society.
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” (Jeremiah chapter 1 verses 5)

4. Not understanding you are born to lead
Some persons doubt the fact that they are born leaders. Once a person doubts his or her ability to lead, it will have great effect on the person’s leadership. There is a course everyone was created to fulfill and that brought everyone in the place of leadership. We are all relevant and that makes our leadership interesting. Even if you know it, you just have to believe you are a born leader.
You are created in the image of God Almighty to operate and act as God. You can’t be created in the image of God and you are suffering insecurity. Never! God was so secure to handover the leadership of the earth to us. You should understand that it pleased God to bring you into the scene as a vessel He will use to reveal His glory. Kill every trace of insecurity in your mind.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Genesis chapter 1 verses 26)

5. Keeping and dwelling on past experiences
Everyone has a background. Our background has a way to shape the mind of some persons. Some persons never accept the fact that they can live out their background. What they experienced growing up in a rough background has so much eaten their mind that they struggle to believe that they can actually live a significant life. They allowed their background to crush their self esteem.
Your past experience is not a reason to loose faith about life and one’s ability to exercise leadership effectively and efficiently. Everyone has a past. To some, their past experiences motivated them to take the bull by horn and change the course of things around them. Some accept the fact that this is who they are and they descend low. Everyone has a background, but how everyone turns out depends on the individual’s decision.
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians chapter 3 verses 12)

6. Not letting go of the past:
There is a need in an individual’s life when we will get to the point where we will come to the full knowledge that we are not whatever our background or situation throw at us. We might have experienced rough memory in the time past, but that was never meant to join one to the future. The future is so beautiful that one should allow an ugly experience to rub one of it’s beauty.
Some are trapped by the past success. Letting go their past success to be able to achieve more is the reason many go into limiting themselves to how far they can go to achieve success. Whatever level of success one may have achieved, there are still many to achieve. It is an error when someone limits him or herself to the achievement he must have acquired in a point where they are more.
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” (Philippians chapter 3 verses 13)

7. Harbouring a wounded heart
Many a harbouring a wounded heart which have limited their performance in the place of leadership. A wounded person cannot do much as a leader. This is because he or she is in pains already. This has a way of making one to be and remain in his shell because he or she might not want anyone to step on him or her. Most of the times, they isolate themselves from people. Even when they decide to associate with others, they are not completely free.
A wounded heart needs a physician. The truth remains that it will take the one that made the heart to get it fixed. When it comes to the issue of heart, it will only take God to heal the heart of the person. If one is wounded, due to the childhood experiences, you need to take your heart to God for proper healing. No one can get his or her heart healed without taking it to God.
“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James chapter 1 verses 8)
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James chapter 4 verses 8)

8. Experiencing inferiority complex
I feel so much for those whose selfesteem have been crushed. They never believe they can stand. They can’t express themselves in the midst of others. They feel so embarrassed to present their opinions. They feel rejected when people are trying to make them feel at home. They so isolate themselves that they believe they don’t have what it takes to associate with others.
If they throw a suggestion, and it was not fully accepted, they feel devastated. When they occupy a leadership position, they can be intimidated by people’s opinion. They pretend to accommodate everyone in the detriment of their own will. Most of the time, they end up surrounding themselves with people of like mind. Of course, that is dangerous to leadership.
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1Corianthians chapter 13 verses 11)

9. The fear of the unknown:
The fear of the unknown has made many never to assume the leadership position. They believe they are never made to lead. They believe they cannot qualify for such a position to be leading. They prefer to be good followers than become a good leader. They always believe that their performance will be below expectations. They don’t want to receive the criticism of the people.
Most of the time they must have seen how some leaders passed through some pressure to make things happened. To them, it is a huge task to pay such a price to get things happened. They are good supporters but never picked up the thought to ever lead. The fact remains that they believe they will fail once they assume any leadership position.

10. Not fully embracing the finished work of Christ Jesus.
Whatever it is anyone is passing through at the moment, Jesus has dealt with it on the cross. On the cross Jesus said it is finished. When Jesus said it is finished! Then it is finished! You don’t have to bear those burden again. Take them to the cross and nail them there by receiving the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross.
