Purity! God’s will for humanity

Purity means being free from contamination or adulteration.

“So that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value [recognizing the highest and the best, and distinguishing the moral differences], and that you may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless [so that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied, you may approach] the day of Christ [not stumbling nor causing others to stumble].” (Philippians chapter 1 verses 10 AMP)

Once this word is mentioned our mind goes to sexual purity. Honestly, purity is an all round factor. Not just in sexuality. The bible instructs us to be perfect even as He Himself I perfect. Purity is a distinguishing factor. It is an essence or fragrance that is perceived far and wide. It is freedom from sins contamination.

No one needs to tell you that you can’t plant a potato and harvest yam

How can one be free from sin whilst living in the world? How do you maintain purity even in the face of strong temptations. I believe purity starts from the heart, then it flows out into all you do. Out of the heart comes the issues of life.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4 verses 23)

The content and deposits in your heart matters alot. If you keep feeding on junks, your heart will be full of junks. No one needs to tell you that you can’t plant a potato and harvest yam. So is purity. You can’t take in unholy things and expect to be holy.

The bible instructs us to be holy for the Himself is holy. Purity is the result of your secret devotion. It gives you a sense of freedom and innocence.

“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1Peter chapter 1 verses 16)

Purity is so important that God demanded it especially from the priests in the old testament.  They lived a consecrated life. Very meticulous because at that point, any mistake is met with instant judgement. King James verse uses the term “walking blamelessly before God.”

“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians chapter 2 verses 15)

“And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.” (Luke chapter 1 verses 6)

What does it takes to be pure?

1 – “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 – Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:

3 – He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

4 – All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

5 – All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.” (Number chapter 6 verses 1 to 5)

Looking at the scripture above, we see that God gave clear instructions about being a Nazarite. He made sure it went from physical to spiritual to even social. Let’s break it down. Purity demands a complete separation from anything that can tamper with your ability to access God’s presence.  It is like a whole cloth free from any stain.

It takes a deep hunger in you to please God

At every point, one is careful not to get stained. What does it takes then? It takes every single things from you. It is like a change of garment. Purity describes who you are and what you do. It applies to both character and conduct even when you are alone.

I once heard a minister say that his consecration was to avoid anything gossip. Whether by jokes or by complaint. He shuts it down immediately.  It takes a deep hunger in you to please God. Paul said that I may know Him and the power at work in Him.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” (Philippians chapter 3 verses 10)

Real purity is knowing that Jesus died for you and he sacrificed everything for you to live a redeemed life. It takes concentration in the areas of action. Your style and appearance, you should honour God with your body.

In as much as the worldly system has so reduced the standard to nothing, it is of great importance that you strive for purity. It is only then that you gain access to God. Yes we all have access to God but there are deeper intricacies you can enjoy when you separate yourself.

Conclusion:

2 – “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3 – And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1John chapter 3 verses 2 to 3)

This is that as brides waiting for the bridegroom, it is important we remain free of entanglements that may damage our garment. Strive to live each day as He wants us to live. It is not our life, it is His. We are on a borrowed time.
