THE HEART OF A LEADER

The heart of a leader

There is a heart of leadership God bestowed at the beginning of man’s existence which will enable him govern and exercise perfect leadership. We can see and acknowledge that God did not make man less than Himself. He made man in the same class with Him so that man will able to carry out his leadership function with the complete sense and mind of a true leader. The heart of true leader was the heart given by God to exercise effective and efficient leadership.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Genesis chapter 1 verses 26)

Here it was revealed that God made man in His image after His likeness.  God created man the way He is so that man can be able to function in his leadership exercise in God’s way. God gave man the right hand to lead right. Every man was made in the right heart to be able to carry and exercise the right kind of leadership.  Nothing is as beautiful as when man was made in the right heart as the god of the earth to exercise the right kind of leadership.

Once the heart is not right for leadership, that leadership will attract the questions of the people.

It is only in being in the right heart as a leader that man will be able to display the right kind of leadership. God is not a man in man’s fallen state that He will compromise the state of heart of man. God knew whatever that affects the state of man’s heart has the tendency to affect the whole process of his leadership. The state of man’s heart is so important to be mindful of because that will go a long way to determine how effective and efficient he will discharge his leadership.

Never you be deceived, once a man’s heart is not right in his leadership, it will spring out functionalities that will attract questions. There are people while having a look at their style of leadership; one could conclude that such persons never had the right heart to exercise leadership. Apparently not that he or she was ever made to be a leader but something is wrong somewhere with the state of his or her heart. Once the heart is not right for leadership, that leadership will attract the questions of the people.

The greatest problem of leader is the problem of the heart. The greatest challenge of leadership is the challenge of the heart

One cannot assume people do not know what they want from their lives. No one who occupies the leadership position should ever think that the people do not know what they desire from the leader. It is wrong to think people don’t have clear expectations from their leader. They do but it still amazes us how the leadership of some persons who were so trusted and handed the place of leadership finally mess up their reputations because they failed to discharge an effective and efficient leadership.

The greatest problem of leader is the problem of the heart. The greatest challenge of leadership is the challenge of the heart. Leadership springs out of the heart. The state of one’s heart determines the kind of leadership that will spring out. A heart that is well and right will exhibit the right kind of leadership that will put a smile on the face of the people, thereby transforming the whole society. A heart that is hurt will spring out devastation thereby inflicting harm on the people and messing up things.

When the heart is fixed, the leader is fixed; once the leader’s heart is fixed, leadership is fixed

It was king Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived was on this course of the state of the heart of the leader when he arrived on the conclusion that,

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” (Proverbs chapter 29 verses 2)

I can tell you he was talking based on the state of the leader’s heart. It is from discharging their responsibilities that one can be able to figure the state of their heart. When the leader with the right heart is in authority, the people will rejoice. When the leader with the wrong heart is in authority, the people will suffer.

Conclusion:

“The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.” (Psalm chapter 37 verses 30)

When the heart is fixed, the leader is fixed; once the leader’s heart is fixed, leadership is fixed. It is the state of one’s heart determines how he or she will go about his or her leadership. We can only expect genuine leadership from the heart that is properly fixed.
