The mystery of the passover

There is a hidden truth on that night Jesus had the passover with His disciples. The night He was betrayed not by an outsider but by the members of the household. It was not someone far away but someone very close and many never believed this could be possible among brethren. It was not an enemy from another camp, but it was a fake disciple who is more dangerous than a declared enemy.

Yes, Jesus was betrayed by His own who never yielded to the teachings and the principles of his master. It was amazing that his own disciple will lift up his hands against his master. That was terrible. Quite all right the Jews needed an insider to perpetuate their evil acts, but it is never a must it will be one of the disciples. When one opens himself or herself to bitterness and unforgiveness, he or she will be vulnerable to the devil. If care is not taken, he or she will become a tool in the hands of the devil.

Yes, Jesus was betrayed by His own who never yielded to the teachings and the principles of his master.

The case of betrayal, is not the mystery we will be looking at on this episode. Let us quickly look at the scripture as we proceed,

18 – And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 – And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

20 – Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

21 – And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

22 – And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 – And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 – The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 – Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26 – And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 – And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 – For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 – But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Mathew chapter 26 verses 18 to 29)

Jesus gave in as the Lamb for substitution

There was a mystery  that went on that very night Jesus had the passover with His disciples. The heavenly bodies were aware of what was about to take place. That night had a spiritual link between heaven and earth.  As men were sitted here on earth, the heavenly bodies were also sitted. There was something significant about that passover. Jesus told them, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

Here is the point, man was never qualified to take holy communion. It is a meal for the ones that are holy. Men were still in their sinful state. When Jesus gave man the opportunity to approach the communion table, He did that because He was ready to make a substitution for man.

“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.” (Mathew chapter 26 verses 26)

The bread was the body of Jesus that will be broken for mankind. In real sense it was man’s body that needed to be broken. Jesus gave in as the Lamb for substitution. The very moment He took the cup, because life is in the blood, He gave to them to drink. These are who were on their way to destruction but Jesus gave them a reason to live by providing life to them.

The very moment man drank of the cup, the sin of man left man and was placed on Jesus. Automatically, man became sinless and Jesus became sin. For the first time in the history of the ministry of Jesus when He had played and blood gushed out. His soul was exceeding sorrowful unto death. The weight of the sin of the world was upon Him. It was on this note that Paul wrote the book of Romans chapter 6 verse 23,

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The very moment man drank of the cup, the sin of man left man and was placed on Jesus.

The weight of sin was enough to squeeze life out of man. That was the weight of sin that rested on Jesus because He gave blood which was life and took the place of judgement for man’s sin. It was on that night that Jesus did the ultimate substitution. Jesus allowed man to walked into the place freedom while Him Jesus walked out into the trauma that man brought upon himself and the entire world. The mystery of that passover night, it was a night of settlement. No one can tell how Jesus chose to do it but the good news is that He did it. It was that night on that communion table that man was set free. Man was no longer a slave to sin. Everything was upon Jesus at the moment.

7 – “Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8 – Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:” (John chapter 18 verses 7 to 8)

Conclusion

It was a night of sorrow for our Lord and master Jesus. Sin has what it takes to destroy the human figure. Jesus took it upon Himself and granted man access to freedom. Jesus paid it all.
