8 purpose of prayer

  1. God’s discovery:

In God’s discovery is getting to know God more and more.

“And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.”

(Exodus chapter 33 verses 18)

 

  1. Self discovering:

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2Corinthians chapter 3 verses 18)

It is in the place of prayer God revealed to you who you are and His will for your life.

 

  1. Purpose discovering:

4 – “Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

5 – Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” (Jeremiah chapter 1 verses 4 to 5)

 

  1. To check the influence of the devil:

11 – “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians chapter 6 verses 11 to 12)

 

  1. To maintain a constant victorious life:

37 – “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 – He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John chapter 7 verses 37 to 38)

 

  1. Divine partnership with God:

18 – “And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

19 – And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

20 – And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21 – And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22 – And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:” (Exodus chapter 33 verses 18 to 22)

In the place of prayer, transformation and transfiguration takes place.

 

  1. Getting God to meet our need:

“Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:” (Number chapter 14 verses 28)

 

  1. Dealing with flesh:

“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” (Mathew chapter 26 verses 39)

“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (1Corianthians chapter 9 verses 27)
