7 aspect of discipleship
- You must be born again: Discipleship is an act to discipline you into following and abiding by the kingdom principles.
11 – “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 – But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 – Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John chapter 1 verses 11 to 13)
- You must be willing to surrender your will: Every individual has a will power to chose whatever he or she desire. In discipleship it is no more your will that prevail, it is the will of the person you are looking up to that will prevail.
7 – “Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
8 – I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” (Psalm chapter 40 verses 7 to 8)
Discipleship is designed not by force but by choice. You have to make the choice to follow.
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mathew chapter 4 verses 19)
In the act of surrendering your will and to follow willing, you should be able to see the glory set ahead of you.
28 – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 – Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Mathew chapter 11 verses 28 to 29)
- You must understand that it is relational: Discipleship is relationship based,. Jesus called us for this relationship with Him.
14 – “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 – As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 – And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (John chapter 10 verses 14 to 16)
- You must understand that it is personal: Every individual’s case is never the same. You have your cross to carry and I have my cross to carry. You must carry your cross and follow Jesus if you must be His disciple.
“And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” (Mathew chapter 10 verses 38)
24 – “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 – For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” (Mathew 16 verses 24 to 25)
- You must understand that it is not a hit and run thing: You will endure till the end. The end of discipleship is to become like Jesus. It is a process that takes time.
“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 1)
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians chapter 1 verses 21)
- You must understand that it is cumulative: Discipleship is in level by level.
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” (Proverbs chapter 4 verses 18)
- You must understand that you need a man as a mentor: In discipleship you must need a man as a mentor, not the HolySpirit.
11 – “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 – For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 – Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” (Ephesians chapter 4 verses 11 to 13)
“Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.” (Psalm chapter 110 verses 3)
Conclusion:
The call for discipleship is the call to become like Jesus. To become like Jesus Christ is a process. You must be willing and yield your life complete in the process to become like Christ.
