5 TOOLS OF DISCIPLESHIP

5 tools of discipleship

  1. Teaching:

1 – “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 – And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2Timothy  chapter 2 verses 1 to 2)

Disciples should be taught, unbelievers should be preached. You can see a deficiency or struggle in the people, then teach the particular subject area to help them build up. For you to be good teacher you should bring your life experience.  Teaching should be systematic. You should humble yourself to give room for disciples to ask questions.

  1. Training:

18 – And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 – Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 – Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Mathew chapter 28 verses 18 to 20)

Training is done in concentration time, that is during retreat. Training should be done by practitioners.

  1. Modelling:

8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 – Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” (Philippians chapter 4 verses 8 to 9)

You model what you want to see and do. Go on evangelism with the people.  Lead them in the prayer. Model marriage, giving and diligent in service.

  1. Apprenticeship:

1 – Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

2 – And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.” (Luke chapter 9 verses 1 to 2)

Send them to do what they have seen you do.

1 – “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

2 – Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

3 – Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

4 – Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

5 – And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

6 – And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

7 – And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8 – And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

9 – And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.” (Luke chapter 10 verses 1 to 9)

  1. Discipline and chastening and rebuke and correction:

5 – And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 – For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” (Hebrews chapter 12 verses5 to 6)
