3 Foundations of the Christian Faith
People need to understand the bedrock of Christianity and what transpired for its establishment.
The fundamental way to deal with damnable heresies is to know and understand the Three Foundations of our Christian Faith. We are going to look into that deeply as we proceed. There is need for everyone who claim to be a believer to understand the three foundation of the Christian faith. Everything in life is dependent on foundation. Christianity has a foundation on which it is established.
When the foundation of any establishment is not stable, any occurrence is possible. You cannot guarantee how long any establishment can last whose foundation is faulty or is unstable. Christianity is not just about receiving Christ into one’s life because he or she thought it is a necessity. People need to understand the bedrock of Christianity and what transpired for its establishment.
Any doctrine that does not draw its nutrients from the foundation Christ has established through His finished work on the cross and His resurrection, can only lead to damnation
It is wise to that everyone was born a child, but it is absurd for those who were born a child some years back are still a child. Maturity is required from anyone who is born. How joyful it is when a child is put to bed, how joyous it is when the child is advancing into maturity. That is the goal of Christianity, to see everyone grow into the full maturity of the knowledge of which christianity was established.
Believers who refused to advance into maturity, always find it easy to be deceived and be misled by any doctrine. No matter how good a doctrine may seem to be, if one cannot trace its foundation to the foundation of which christianity was established, it is not what accepting. Any doctrine that does not draw its nutrients from the foundation Christ has established through His finished work on the cross and His resurrection, can only lead to damnation. Beware!
Apostle Paul admonished the Church in Ephesus concerning this same scourge of false doctrines and destructive heresies.
“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” (Ephesians chapter 4 verses 14)
Many misdirected believers are crazy about strange new revelations at the expense of properly established doctrine. We need to understand that there is absolutely nowhere the phrase “sound revelation” can be found in the Holy Bible, whereas the phrase “sound doctrine” appears four times. Let us quickly look at those place for clarity sake.
“For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;” (1Timothy chapter 1 verses 10)
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;” (2Timothy chapter 4 verses 3)
“Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” (Titus chapter 1 verses 9)
“But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:” (Titus chapter 2 verses 1)
“Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;” (Titus chapter 2 verses 9)
In other words, an omelette is only as good as the eggs with which it is made.
The Three Foundations of our Christian Faith:
- Jesus Christ the Rock Foundation:
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1Corianthians chapter 3 verses 11)
The Person of Christ Jesus Himself is the Primary Bedrock upon Whom our lives as Christian believers are anchored.
- The Word Foundation :
24 – “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 – And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Mathew chafter 7 verses 24 to 25)
This speaks about the Commandments and Sayings of Jesus, which we are fully obliged to obey as His Disciples: ”
- The Apostolic Foundation:
This refers to the Inspired Writings of the Apostles and Early Disciples of Jesus, which are compiled together and are known as the Apostles’ Doctrine.
“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts chapter 2 verses 42)
Whenever we stay committed to the Doctrine of Christ, we are granted Divine Immunity from false teachings and alternative gospels that have their origin in the pit of hell.
9 – “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 – If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 – For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” (2John chapter 1 verses 9 to 11)
Conclusion:
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” (2Timothy chapter 2 verses 19)
Everyone is expected to build his or her faith on the foundation of God that stands sure, so that one will not be tossed around with the false doctrines.
